Cuatro Mujeres: Nina Simone’s Four Women at Humboldt

The Old Town School of Folk Music's Community Ventures series continues its summer exploration of Nina Simone's "Four Women" in Humboldt Park on Tuesday evening, August 25, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. This 60-minute performance focuses on Simone's character Saffronia, placing her in dialogue with Oshun, a feminine Orisha from the Afro-Cuban Lucumí tradition. Mariachi Cuatro Vientos and Frog Belly Society provide the music, with choreography by Edson Cabrera. It's the second of four free park performances this summer, each centered on one of Simone's archetypal women.
