Cuatro Mujeres: Nina Simone’s Four Women at Hamilton
The Old Town School of Folk Music's Community Ventures department brings a four-part summer series to South and West Side parks, each performance unpacking one of the archetypal women from Nina Simone's "Four Women." The Hamilton Park stop on Thursday, August 20, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM centers on Aunt Sarah, placed in dialogue with Yemayá, a feminine Orisha from the Afro-Cuban Lucumí tradition. The 60-minute performance features the Windy City Ramblers and Azania Drum, with choreography by Zenzile Fatou — a thoughtful, diasporic exploration of Simone's scathing critique of injustice.
