Conceived in Liberty: Cartoons, Caricatures, and Illustrations in the Wartime US, 1812-1918

An exhibition at the Newberry Library's Trienens Galleries, opening Saturday, September 19, and running through the fall. It presents political cartoons, caricatures, and illustrations published in the United States during the wars of 1812, the Mexican-American War, the Civil War, and World War I. The show draws from the library's extensive collection of wartime visual culture, tracing how artists shaped public opinion and documented conflict from the early republic through the First World War. Free and open to the public during regular gallery hours.
