The Diddley Bow Workshop at the Mayfair branch connects Chicago's electric blues legacy to the humble one-stringed instrument where many legends started. On Wednesday, October 14, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, musician Coco Elysses leads a session that begins with a 20-minute lecture on the history of players like Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy, moves through a performance on the diddley bow, and then guides participants in building their own cigar box guitar. Supplies are provided and the program is suitable for all ages, including families with younger children. Registration is active and required. Presented as part of the Renaissance Project with support from the Mellon Foundation.
