Chicago: The Birthplace of Black History Tour with Dilla the Urban Historian
A bus tour led by Urban Historian Sherman “Dilla” Thomas that traces Chicago’s role as the birthplace of Black history as an academic field. The tour stops at key locations connected to the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (now ASAALH), founded in 1915 at the Wabash YMCA, and includes archival context from the library. Departing from Woodson Regional on Wednesday, October 14, from 2 to 4 PM, this is a focused, curator-led excursion rather than a general sightseeing ride. Presented as part of the Chicago Public Library’s Renaissance Project with support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Registration opens closer to the date; accommodations available with requests 14 business days in advance.
