Black Panther Party History in Illinois: The South Side Story
Historian Leila Wills, executive director of the Historical Preservation Society of the Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party, presents the South Side story of the party's Illinois operations on the 60th anniversary of its founding. The talk covers the chapter's relocation from the West Side to the South Side, its community programs, and the government surveillance it faced, and introduces the Black Panther Party Heritage Trail in Illinois — a public history project documenting the sites tied to this history. The presentation runs Saturday, October 24, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the Walker branch in Morgan Park.
