Bird Collisions: A Collaborative Art Workshop

Bird Collisions in the Anthropocene is a crowdsourced environmental art project that turns public participation into a large-scale installation. At this workshop, each person creates a replica of a specific bird that died from a window collision in Chicago in 2023, using upcycled cloth, scissors, and glue. The completed bird gets tagged with the maker's name and the bird's details, then collected to become part of a 300-foot-long carpet of 10,836 replicas—one for each bird killed that year. The workshop runs Wednesday, November 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Bucktown-Wicker Park branch, and participants should expect to spend 20 to 40 minutes on their bird. No supplies needed; all materials provided. For adults, teens, and kids 5 and up.
