Archives in the Park: Chicago's Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium

The North Park Village Nature Preserve has a past that most visitors never suspect: it once housed the largest tuberculosis hospital in the United States. Nature Center Director Matt Renfree leads a walking tour of the former sanitarium grounds on Saturday morning, October 10, from 10 AM to noon, followed by a presentation and discussion of historic items from the Harold Washington Library Center’s Municipal Reference Collection. The tour offers a chance to see the preserve’s landscape through a historical lens, connecting the current trails and greenery to their medical-era origins.
