As part of the Chicago YIVO Summer Festival of Yiddish Culture, we welcome Bibi Marcell and Gail Mangurten!
Bibi and Gail will play Yiddish soul music that will warm your hearts and make you want to clap and sing along!
Bibi Marcell has been performing throughout the world for many years, spending most of her time in the Chicago area. She began her singing career in her teens and later joined the Chicago Klezmer Ensemble. In addition to performing extensively on her own, Bibi is currently a featured vocalist with the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band. Between singing engagements, Bibi works as a freelance cantorial soloist and is the Education Director for Congregation Hakafa in Glencoe. She is also the mother of three beautiful children.
Gail Mangurten is a pianist who has played in various bands and ensembles including Jazmer and The KlezMeydlech. Gail is a versatile performer who is as comfortable playing Jewish music as she is playing American music in a variety of styles. Due to her versatility, she is in demand as an accompanist for both musical and theatrical productions. Gail also teaches privately and at Cappelli Institute of Music in Oak Park.
