America: Songs of Protest and Freedom at Washington

To mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, journalist Cheryl Corley narrates a multi-genre concert of spoken word and music at Washington Park. Led by singer-songwriter Lucy Smith, the band weaves together Walt Whitman's poetry with songs from Curtis Mayfield, John Lennon, and Beyoncé, tracing the country's story from its founding to the 21st century. The Saturday afternoon performance, running from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, aims to present the complexities of those 250 years through protest and freedom anthems.
