Adult Book Discussion + Documentary Screening: The Lathe Of Heaven
Join us for a discussion of the acclaimed book, The Lathe of Heaven , by renowned sci-fi author Ursula K. Le Guin! In addition, we will be watching an hour-long documentary about the author shortly after the discussion.
In a future world racked by violence and environmental catastrophes, George Orr wakes up one day only to discover that his dreams have the ability to alter reality. He seeks help from Dr. William Haber, a psychiatrist who immediately grasps the power George wields. Soon George must preserve reality itself as Dr. Haber becomes adept at manipulating George's dreams for his own purposes.
After the book club, patrons can enjoy the film, Worlds of Ursula K. LeGuin , a documentary exploring the remarkable life and legacy of the late feminist author Ursula K. Le Guin. Best known for groundbreaking science fiction and fantasy works, she defiantly held her ground on the margin of “respectable” literature until the sheer excellence of her work, at long last, forced the mainstream to embrace fantastic literature. Her fascinating story has never before been captured on film!
